Where Is the Royal Sonesta Kauai Resort Lihue?
The Royal Sonesta Kauai is at 3610 Rice Street in Lihue, on Kalapaki Beach, just minutes from Lihue Airport and the island's main hub. That central spot makes it one of the easiest resorts for out-of-town guests to reach, and the resort offers a complimentary airport shuttle.
Royal Sonesta Kauai Wedding Ceremony Locations
The resort has several spaces for ceremonies and receptions.
Waialeale Lawn. An oceanfront lawn for ceremonies of up to about 100 guests, with views over Kalapaki Bay.
Luau Grounds on Kalapaki Beach. A larger beachside space that can host up to about 350 guests.
Puna Court. A garden-style courtyard suited to receptions of up to about 120 guests.
Kauai Ballroom. An indoor ballroom that can host up to about 900 guests and works well as a weather backup or for a large reception.
Elopements and Vow Renewals. The resort offers elopement and vow renewal options for couples who want something smaller.

Do You Need a Permit to Get Married at the Royal Sonesta Kauai?

Can You Bring Your Own Photographer to the Royal Sonesta Kauai?

Best Time of Day for Royal Sonesta Kauai Wedding Photos
Late afternoon and sunset: Warm, golden light over Kalapaki Bay is the main draw. A ceremony about an hour before sunset leaves time for portraits as the sky changes.
Morning: Soft light, calm water and fewer people around. Great for a first look and couple portraits.
Midday: Bright and contrasty. If your ceremony has to be midday, I'll look for open shade around the grounds and plan portraits for before or after.
East Side Weather Considerations
Lihue sits on Kauai's east side, which gets more passing showers than the South Shore. Showers usually pass fast, and the ballroom gives you an indoor option. I plan a backup with every couple ahead of time.

Oceanfront lawn portraits. The Waialeale Lawn gives me open grass, ocean views and soft evening light for ceremony photos and couple portraits.
Kalapaki Beach photos. The beach is calm and easy to walk, which makes for relaxed portraits with sand and surf.
Garden courtyard details. Puna Court's garden setting adds greenery for detail shots and family portraits, and is one of my favorite places on property to shoot.
Golden hour over Kalapaki Bay. Late light over the water makes warm, glowing portraits.

Contact the resort early. Popular dates fill up, so reach out to the wedding team as soon as you have a date in mind.
Ask about room blocks. If you're inviting guests from out of town, ask about room block terms.
Plan around the light. Plan the ceremony roughly an hour or 90 minutes before sunset so there's time for portraits in golden light.
Plan a rain backup. Ask which indoor space is held as the weather plan.
Use the airport shuttle. The resort offers a complimentary airport shuttle, which helps guests arriving in Lihue.
