Photographing a wedding at the Royal Sonesta Kauai
The Royal Sonesta Kauai Resort sits on Kalapaki Beach in Lihue, with an oceanfront lawn, tropical gardens and views toward the Haupu mountain ridge. This wedding brought together 90 guests, with a ceremony beside the water and the reception in Puna Court afterward.
With a guest list this size, I photographed the ceremony, family portraits and the celebration, then slipped away with the couple for portraits in the jungle-like Puna Court gardens and along the lava rock shoreline as the light turned golden. A resort like this lets the whole day happen in one place, so there is little travel between locations and more time for relaxed photographs. I stay close but quiet, so the day feels natural and the moments are never forced.
