Do You Need a Permit for a Beach Wedding Near 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay?

Ceremonies on the resort's own lawns are arranged through the hotel, but a wedding on a public beach is a different story. Beach weddings on Kauai generally need a permit, and the rules depend on which beach you choose. I break the process down in my guide to Kauai wedding permits, and if you're drawn to the bay itself, read my post on getting married at Hanalei Bay.

Can You Bring Your Own Photographer to 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay?

Unless you have a photography wedding package that includes photography services, yes. I am one of the certified vendors on their property so if you've already booked me, I'm happy to coordinate directly with your planner and the resort.

Why Choose 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay for Your Princeville Wedding?

A North Shore setting. Your ceremony and photos happen above Hanalei Bay, with mountains, ocean and lush greenery all within reach.

Several ceremony spaces in one resort. Cliffside and oceanfront lawns plus indoor rooms give you different looks without leaving the property.

Easy logistics for guests. Rooms, dining and the wedding team are all in one place, so out-of-town guests don't have to travel far.

Scalable guest counts. The resort lists spaces and packages for everything from a tiny elopement to a large celebration.

A first look location. The grounds offer plenty of quiet corners for a private first look before the ceremony.

Best Time of Day for 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay Wedding Photos

Late afternoon and sunset: Warm, golden light over the bay is the main draw. A ceremony about an hour or two before sunset gives me time for portraits as the sky changes.

Morning: Soft light, calm conditions and fewer people around. Great for a first look and couple portraits.

Midday: Bright and contrasty. If your ceremony has to be midday, I'll look for open shade around the grounds and plan portraits for before or after.

North Shore Weather Considerations

The North Shore is greener and rainier than the South Shore, and that lushness is part of its beauty. The drier months from April to October are generally preferred for weddings here. Showers pass quickly, and rain can make for moody, romantic photos, so I plan a backup with you ahead of time. The resort's indoor rooms are a handy plan B.

Photography Possibilities at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay

The resort gives me a lot to work with, and the variety is what makes it one of my favorite North Shore wedding locations.

Cliffside ceremony portraits. The lawn above the bay gives me open sky, ocean and mountain layers in the same frame, especially in soft evening light.

Oceanfront lawn photos. Kamani Cove puts you close to the water for relaxed, natural couple portraits and candid moments with family.

Golden hour over Hanalei Bay. As the sun sets, the bay and the mountains behind it turn warm and glowing, which is perfect for romantic portraits.

Garden and architectural details. Pathways, landscaping and the resort's design add texture for detail shots and wider portraits.

Elopement-style sessions. If you're planning a tiny ceremony, I can slow everything down and spend more time on portraits around Princeville. See my elopement photography and wedding photography pages for how I work.

Planning Tips for a 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay Wedding

Book early. Popular dates on the North Shore fill up quickly, so reach out to the resort's wedding team as soon as you have a date in mind.

Ask about package inclusions. Some packages bundle services like music, flowers and photography, so compare them carefully against the vendors you already want.

Plan a rain backup. North Shore showers are part of the experience. Ask which indoor space is held as the weather backup.

Schedule around the light. Plan the ceremony roughly an hour before sunset so there's time for portraits in golden light.

Build in travel time. Allow extra time for guests driving up from Lihue or the South Shore.

Bring a photographer who knows the North Shore. Someone who's familiar with the light, the weather and the area can make the day feel calmer and the photos better.
