Where Is Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens?
Na Aina Kai is at 4101 Wailapa Road in Kilauea, on Kauai's North Shore. The gardens sit on roughly 240 acres, so couples get a private, park-like setting that feels far from the crowds. It's about a 15 minute drive from Princeville, and a 45 minute drive from the airport.
Na Aina Kai Wedding Ceremony Locations
The gardens offer several distinct settings for outdoor ceremonies, each with its own look.
Ka'ula Lagoon. A peaceful lagoon setting with reflections and lush greenery around the water.
Hardwood Forest. A shaded forest setting with tall trees and soft, filtered light.
The Bluff. An open setting with wide views, great for dramatic skies and sunset light.
Kaluakai Beach. A beach setting on the property for couples who want sand and ocean without a public beach.
Seaside Meadow. A grassy meadow near the coast that works well for ceremonies and portraits.
Guest Counts and Rules. Ceremonies are outdoors and are listed for up to about 150 guests.

Do You Need a Permit to Get Married at Na Aina Kai?
Na Aina Kai is a private garden, so ceremonies there are arranged with the gardens rather than through a public park or beach permit. Still, the legal marriage license is separate from your venue booking. I break down the license and permit process in my guide to Kauai wedding permits and my post on how to get married in Hawaii.
Can You Bring Your Own Photographer to Na Aina Kai?
Yes, you can bring your own photographer when booking this venue. From what I understand, Na Aina Kai only offers venue service, so everything from photography to wedding planning to catering needs to be booked seperate from the venue. If you book me, I'm happy to work with your planner and the gardens on the details.
Why Choose Na Aina Kai for Your North Shore Wedding?
A private garden setting. You get acres of lush grounds instead of a shared public space, which makes for relaxed ceremonies and uninterrupted portraits.
Many looks in one place. Lagoon, forest, bluff, meadow and beach settings give you variety without a long drive between locations.
Range of guest counts. Ceremonies are outdoors and suited to small and large-sized celebrations.
A true Kauai feel. The tropical plants, ocean air and sculpture make it feel distinctly Hawaiian without needing a crowded beach.
A calm place for a first look. The quieter corners of the gardens work well for a private moment before the ceremony.
Best Time of Day for Na Aina Kai Wedding Photos
Late afternoon and sunset: Warm, golden light on the bluff and meadow is my favorite for ceremonies and portraits.
Morning: Soft light, calm conditions and glowing greenery. Great for a first look and couple portraits.
Midday: The forest and shaded areas give me open shade to work with, even when the sun is high.
North Shore Weather Considerations
The North Shore is lush for a reason, and that means rain is part of the picture. The drier months from April to October are generally preferred for weddings here. Showers usually pass quickly, and wet greenery can make for rich, moody photos. I plan a backup with every couple ahead of time.
Photography Possibilities at Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens
The gardens give me a lot to work with, and the variety is what makes it one of my favorite North Shore wedding locations.
Lagoon reflections. Still water, tropical plants and soft light make for calm, romantic portraits at Ka'ula Lagoon.
Forest light. The Hardwood Forest gives me shaded, filtered light and tall trees for a storybook feel.
Bluff and ocean views. The open bluff is ideal for wide portraits with big skies, especially around sunset.
Beach and meadow portraits. Kaluakai Beach and the Bluff add sand, grass and coastline to your gallery.
Elopement-style sessions. If you're planning a tiny ceremony, I can slow everything down and spend more time on portraits across the gardens. See my elopement photography and wedding photography pages for how I work.

Planning Tips for a Na Aina Kai Wedding
Contact the gardens early. Venue rules and available dates come first, so reach out as soon as you have a date in mind.
Ask about the required team. Ask whether a coordinator, caterer or other vendors need to be approved before you book.
Plan around the light. Plan the ceremony roughly an hour or two before sunset so there's time for portraits in golden light, and confirm how late events can run.
Plan a rain backup. Ceremonies are outdoors, so ask what the weather plan is.
Check decoration and music rules. Ask what decorations, sound and send-off items are allowed.
Bring a photographer who knows the North Shore. Someone who's familiar with the light, the weather and the area can make the day feel calmer and the photos better.
